Self-Care

The roots of self-care were popularized in the 1960’s by activists in the civil rights movement (of all colors), especially by black panthers. They used self-care techniques and set up free community programs to make mental and physical health more accessible to people of color. Self-care is very important because it is a way for you to recharge yourself. Taking care of yourself is not selfish rather it is a way of self-preservation good mental health. We are at a critical point in our history with the pandemic and you need to learn to not focus on the negative bur focus on the positive. It is also very important that you learn to soothe your emotions, fears and confront the insecurities that make you feel unsafe in the world.
